“Since I went to school on my own realization, by then I was 11 years old. As a child I was an obedient and a hard-working daughter and a student. With my grade 10 qualification, my ambition was to become a simple receptionist in an office.

But due to faith, I got selected to do a primary school teacher training and as a result I became a teacher. Becoming a teacher for the first time after completing my training was one of my happiest moments I can recollect.

I am 65 years old now and for the past 37 years, I have been serving as a teacher in Thimphu teaching general science for mostly 6 graders. I am a mother of two and I have always believed that the best gift you can give your children is not riches or status but a wholesome education that can shape them to become the best versions of themselves.

When I retired in 2020, I found myself in a state of profound disorientation, as I had never experienced life without the vibrant presence of a classroom filled with young, enthusiastic, and brilliant minds. That’s when I started dusting off my journals that I have been writing all my life and found almost 15 of them.

My family encouraged me to write a memoir because I was always told that I was good story teller. Since I had absolutely all the time in the world to myself, I decided to go ahead with the idea. After 2 years of working with my editor, my family decided to organize an intimate launch of the book.

Everyone who meant the world to me were present and I’ll never forget my 8 years old grandson giving the vote of thanks. Today I still find myself getting dressed to go to schools in Thimphu and Paro but to talk about my book and tell my stories.

No dream is too big or too small. No dream is too early or too late. As long as you dream nothing should stop you from making it come alive.”
