“My husband and I had a rocky relationship. Something was always going wrong. We had many misunderstandings, and people were always interfering. In the midst of it all, I got pregnant. Despite my pregnancy, I had to take care of my parents and do farm work in the village since no one else was around to take over. I was doing okay until one morning I started to bleed. I was 28 weeks pregnant at the time and the bleeding scared me. I visited the nearest BHU immediately to get a check-up and they sent me to Thimphu. The doctors at the emergency room admitted me after doing an ultrasound. Just a few hours later, I was in labor. My whole world turned upside down when I gave birth to a baby boy who weighed only 1 kg. The doctors told my husband and I to prepare ourselves for the worst. He said that the baby was too small to survive. The specialists took him to do some checkups and see how they could help him. He stopped breathing for a while. His heart stopped. After 19 minutes of CPR, his heart restarted. They sent him to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). My husband and I weren’t sure if our baby would make it. We almost even gave up on our marriage because things always seemed to go wrong. But with kencho sum’s blessing, after 59 days at the NICU, our son was in good health. He was a handsome and healthy baby.

There were so many people who helped us when we were in need. They guided us, scolded us when we were on the verge of making mistakes, and supported us to no end. We are really grateful to the medical staff, as well as all our friends and relatives. My husband and I have learned to trust each other now. He has changed in his ways, and there are far fewer misunderstandings than before. We struggled to keep our son alive to see this wonderful world but he made it. Now, he is 1 year 7 months old and is a very active, naughty, and healthy young boy. Our son has been a miracle for us, and we love him dearly.”
