“I didn’t always have the great love for music that I do now. I listened to whatever was playing in the background or what my parents were listening to. Whether I was in the car, the house or anywhere else there was sure to be some Beatles, Buddy Holly, or the Dubliners playing somewhere in the background. When I was 8, my mom gifted me a guitar. At that time the guitar was just another thing to make my room look cooler. It remained a decorative piece for around 3 years. When I turned 11, my parents enrolled me into a music school. That was when I finally used the guitar I’d had lying around. That was also when I started singing.

In a few years, I started performing in front of crowds. Everyone said I wouldn’t be able to earn a living from it. Listening to the same thing from different people, I almost gave up on music. I actually stopped for 6 months. But then I started performing again because I liked music and did not want to give up so easily. I had my bad days, many critics showed up, but music gave me a new life. The images that music and songs create are amazing. It lets people revisit lost and forgotten moments of life. Being an artist is at a whole different level of ‘difficulty’ as a student. Time management became a challenge with both music and studies in my life. But I am trying my best and the support from family and friends means the world to me. I know I still have a long way to go, but I try to enjoy the journey.

Thimphu is a great place to make things happen and dreams do come true here. I think we should support everyone who is pursuing those dreams. Always do things that make you happy. And take a break from people who belittle you, our heart is a trainwreck of unhinged emotions but we shouldn’t trade it for the world.”
