“All my life, I believed music was my passion. That I was meant to be a singer. I started singing from a very young age and did moderately okay. Before I knew it, I became known as “the girl who sings”. In the years leading up to today, I’ve done numerous covers online and have written and sang my own songs. But as I grow older, I constantly find myself questioning it. I don’t sing much, if at all. In the past year, I’ve had multiple acquaintances ask me why. People have outright said to me that I’m wasting time and talent. That I should sing more originals or be more active on social media.

What people, myself included for a long time, don’t understand is that being good at something doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be your passion. Or that you must make a career out of it. Because after almost 20 years of labeling myself a singer, I realized that I can be more than this. There is so much more that I want to do. My passion lies not just in music but in the process of creating itself. In creating something that others can relate to. A content that is worthy of people’s time. In writing a poem that gives company to those feeling lonely. In making music that gives them the feeling of invincibility. Maybe in a few years time, it will be different again. But right now, in this moment, it gives me a great sense of relief that I finally have a vague idea of where I’m headed in life.

If there was one thing I could say to young creators out there, it would simply be to just start. If you want to be a YouTuber, just create your first video and upload it. You want to sing? Just post that first song. If you keep waiting for the perfect idea, the perfect song or the money to flow, you might end up waiting until it’s too late. It’s okay to make mistakes but it’s not okay to let your fear of not being good enough hold you back. You create your own reality. You have the power to make your life what you want it to be.”
